What to expect

Accessible only by boat, Loutro is an idyllic seaside village where you can completely disconnect. Journey from Sfakia to Loutro by boat for a day of exploration at your own pace, enjoying lunch at a local taverna and time to recline under the bright Cretan sun. Rena, one of our local guides, says, ‘Loutro is the hidden jewel of southern Crete, a magical place of unbelievable blue, light blue, almost green crystal-clear water – and with no sign of cars or traffic.'

This exclusive excursion kicks off with a scenic drive to Sfakia, stopping along the way at Askifou plateau for a Greek coffee overlooking the majestic White Mountains. Then, you'll hop into a boat for the quick 20-minute mini-cruise to Loutro – a remote picturesque fishing village with a beautiful mountain backdrop. Here, you'll have plenty of free time to stroll along its cobbled streets, admiring whitewashed houses straight from a postcard. It's also a great opportunity to grab a souvenir and help the local economy.

Plus, there's a lunch at a traditional family-owned seafront taverna overlooking the bay, savouring what Rena calls ‘the aromas of the south'. You'll enjoy tasting specialities from the region such as local Cretan salad, tzatziki and more, with local fruit and dessert to finish. Afterwards, you can recline on the beach, take a dip in the clear waters of the Libyan Sea and watch the world go by. With no traffic, it's your chance to unwind in peaceful surroundings.

!This excursion is very badly misold. It isn't a boat cruise AT ALL.. It was three hours on a coach and then half an hour packed like sardines onto an old water -taxi. Two passengers had to stand because of overcrowding. There wasn't a life jacket between us and no safety talk at all. It belched diesel fumes throughout and it was an awful experience. At 75 quid it was a rip off and I'm still seething about it. Best thing was the food but we could have spent 20 quid on that and saved a packet!

Vehicle for 18 people was much too small, very cramped conditions, driver was not very co-operative and would not drive to dockside. Some passengers struggled with steep slopes/steps up and down during the trip. This would have been avoided if the driver had been co-operative. Also there was no warning on the trip description to say that there were steep slopes/steps and walking involved. One family were not able to walk to to the restaurant - approach too steep. No visible lifejackets on boat.

Loutro village nice place to visit but very little to keep you interested. The lunch was excellent the staff very efficient We spent most of our time sat with a drink waiting for the boat ride back.

Good tour guide - not a lot to see at the village. Nice lunch. Long walk from bus to ferry (unexpected)

The whole day was super, the coach trip over the mountains spectacular, the boat crossing to Loutro was fun. The little village itself adorable. The lunch was wholesome and plenty of it.
