Att göra – Forum Romanum
Det legendariska Forum Romanum, i det gamla hjärtat av Rom, var en blomstrande knutpunkt för sociala, politiska och religiösa aktiviteter under sin glansperiod. Här föregick allt från val till kriminella prövningar och gladiator matcher, och är nu ett vidsträckt komplex av ruiner som inbjuder på en promenad i det förflutna.
Ursprungligen träsk som dränerades tack vare ett imponerande ingenjörsmässig prestation, men efter det romarrikets fall blev området oanvänt. Plundrat för sin sten och marmor och sedan i stort sett glömt, det var inte förrän på 1700-talet som utgrävningar började, och som fortfarande pågår.
På detta enorma område får man inte missa den 23 meter höga Arco di Settimio Severo, Curia (säte för senaten), den triumferande Arco de Tito, och de få kvarvarande granitkolumner i Tempio di Saturno. En promenad ner via Sacra, den viktigaste genomfartsled som en gång länkade Piazza del Campidoglio med Colosseum, kommer också att ge dig en chans att föreställa dig komplexet i all sin forna glans.
