Berlins Museumsinsel har fått sitt namn tack vare det faktum att de värdefulla samlingarna av fem museer ligger på en ö - i armarna på floden Spree, som slingrar sig genom stadens centrum. Där hamnbyggnader och industrihallar legat en gång i tiden står idag imponerande byggnader från 1800- och 1900-talet som förvandlar ön till ett av Berlins mest kända landmärken.
Det så kallade Museumsinsel, som har erkänts som ett UNESCO världsarv sedan 1999, består av fem kända tyska museer som visar ett enormt utbud av konst, som sträcker sig från forntida Egypten till 1800-talets Europa. Sex tusen år av mänsklig historia väntar på att utforskas, med varje museum som visar en annan del av historien.
Pergamonmuseet är stjärnan i showen med sina imponerande arkitektoniska fasader och portar från antika världar. Känd för Pergamon-altaret och Ishtar-porten i Babylon, dess senaste attraktion är 360-graders panorama "Masterpieces from the Ancient Metropolis by Yadegar Asisi". Panoramaet förvandlar en forntida värld till verklighet, så att besökare kan resa tillbaka i tiden och uppleva altarens ursprungliga läge.
Altes Museum är det äldsta komplexet i området (byggt 1830) och innehåller främst grekiska och romerska antikviteter samt delar av den sällsynta samlingen av antikviteter av Frederick Wilhelm II.
Neues Museum är känt för sin förhistoriska och egyptiska samling inklusive den legendariska bysten av den egyptiska drottningen Nefertiti.
Alte Nationalgalerie fokuserar på romantiken och impressionisterna och visar en samling som innehåller de viktigaste tyska konstverken.
Bode Museum visar skulpturer och andra verk av sen antik och bysantinsk konst.
