Ting å gjøre i Katedralen i Milano
Visste du at katedralen i Milano har vært under bygging i over 600 år? Den eksepsjonelle kirken er selve symbolet for Italias motehovedstad, og er utsmykket med hundrevis av spir og mer enn 300 statuer, fra groteske vannspyer til helgenfigurer. Men – selve toppen av kransekaka er den skinnende Madonnina, Milanos beskytter. Hun ble også byens høyeste punkt frem til Pirelli-tårnet tok over i 1961.
Det er ikke uten grunn at det milanesiske ordtaket «longh cumè la fabrica del domm» falt i smak – son oversettes til «så lenge katedralen står uferdig». Påbegynt i 1386 av Giangaleazzo Visconti, og fullført så sent som 1965 – bebyggelsen ble utsatt pga. krig, mangel på finansiering samt prosjektets enorme størrelse, som krevde bygging av kanaler i katedralens hovedmateriale, Candoglia-marmor. Men den langvarige konstruksjonen førte også til en blanding av arkitektoniske stiler, noe som både ble applaudert og kritisert.
I kirkens storslåtte interiør kan du se uvanlige skatter som steinkrystallkisten til Borromeo og statuen av den hudløse Bartholomew. Du kan også gå opp til takterrassen og se spirene på kloss hold, og ta innover deg en nydelig utsikt over Milano. Merk deg at pga. sikkerhetskontrollen kan det være lurt å møte opp tidlig eller bestille forbi-køen-billett til Duomo di Milano, eller vente i kø utenfor billettkontoret.
